Includes Certificate of Authenticity and Digital Downloads of the Ciel and dj lostboi remixes
Here are the first remixes from Jacques Greene’s sophomore album, Dawn Chorus, offered exclusively alongside a limited woven blanket designed by Hassan Rahim. The first is a powerful dj lostboi ambient recreation which expands on ‘Understand’ - pulling stems of choir and cello into long, syrupy chords, disrupted by the ASMR of trackpad clicks, overground recorded train sound and interstitial movie dialogue. With sympathetic contrast, Ciel’s “Geary Ave” remix flips Greene’s eulogic 4/4, Lynchian chords and spoken word original into bouncing melodic techno. Embodying the themes of Dawn Chorus, Ciel recounts going to parties in Toronto’s Geary Ave between 2016-2018, prior to the gentrification of the area. In audio settled into the track she explores the sense of community and connectedness she found in the club. On twitter she expressed “Turns out I’m still unable to listen to my brand new remix for JG without crying despite listening back over 1000 times during the writing and arrangement process”.
As December daylight seems to be drawing in so quickly, Dawn Chorus and these remixes are just waking up.
